Creator/Executive Mara Brock Akil and director/executive producer Salim Akil have signed a multi-year deal with BET.
Under the new agreement, they’ll continue to produce episodes of The Game, which is being renewed for a fifth season.
Additionally new shows will be developed for Akil Productions, one of which is confirmed to be a series.
Speaking on their new agreement, the Akils released a statement saying,
“Our goal is to expand on our existing brand, by way of Akil Productions, to create new opportunities for ourselves and others. BET has provided us with a tremendous platform to create smart, funny and dramatic, quality programming with multi-layered and multi-dimensional characters appealing to millions of viewers.”
His wife Mara created the series “Girlfriends” in 2000.
BET renewed their hit series The Game for a fifth season. The first three seasons of the show aired on The CW, until the network cancelled the series in 2009. After fans voiced their complaints, BET picked up the series and developed a fourth season, which premiered in January with a record 7.7 million viewers. The network is set to shoot 22 episodes for the new season. No word yet as to when the fifth season will debut. BET is also set to renew Let’s Stay Together for another season.

A song on Game‘s recently released Purp & Patron mixtape may land the left coast rapper in court.
In a recent interview with Hiphopdx.com, Chuck Taylor revealed that their may be a possible lawsuit filed by producer RZA over his use of the song, “Heartbreak” which was featured on the two-disc mixtape offering released last weak.
“I think RZA [is] tryin’ to sue about [‘Heartbreaker’] or somethin’,” Game tells the site. “That’s f^ckin’ crazy. Like, I don’t even know how RZA sues The Game.”
Apparently, RZA concocted the beat for Game’s awaited R.E.D album, but could not get the sample for the song cleared and therefore asked Game not to use the track. Game instead released the song on his latest mixtape effort, to the chagrin of the Wu-Tang head.
Game says there must have been some miscommunication,
“[Rza] came to the studio and brought the [‘Heartbreaker’] track to me,” says Game. “He’s like, ‘Yo Game, this is for you. You can have that.’ Those are his words.”
Game says despite the possible court case over the track, there is no love lost,
“I still got nothin’ but respect for RZA [and] the whole Wu, and all of that,” says oft-beefing rapper. “I’m good. I’m good friends with Ghostface [Killah] and [Raekwon] and Method [Man]. Those are my dudes. I would never speak down on RZA or any of those dudes for that matter – not that any of those dudes [have anything] to do with this conversation. But with the Wu, you gotta speak to a pack. It’s all love.”
It seems that 2011 is ringing in right for some people and has put put a ring over the eye’s of others.
According to Twitter, Ras Kass got an engagement ring for the eye by none other than his nemesis The Game.
The Game, who was boasting about the melee via his Twitter states:
“Gave Ras Kass a 2 piece dinner in the club the other night, he went down in the first round like last time. Same soft chin, different clothes.”
Ras Kass who obviously wanted to be the first to break the news tweeted this announcement shortly after midnight on January 1, 2011.
“2011 starts out right! Me and Game has a rumble. Dude waaaay p**sy! Don’t punch and run. We got pic f**got!”
Now of course based on the tweet we can’t speculate who’s telling the truth, but The Game did come with a cosigner, who tweeted that he saw Ras Kass, “lumped up and talking to the cops.”
Wow. Will there ever be any peace for these two? Check out the hilarious tweets below.
