Two Judges In The C-Murder Case Under Investigation!

Two judges who presided over New Orleans rapper C-Murder’s trial for the 2002 murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas, are now under investigation.

According to published reports, Judge Martha Sassone and Judge Ellen Kovach are being investigated by a secret panel after the office received a credible complaint against one of the judges who presided over the controversial case.

Although Sassone was the convicting judge in the case, Kovach is being investigated for her alleged ties to the rapper and for her use of the ruling in the case to gain political favor.

Sassone was running for re-election to the 24th Judicial District Court against Ellen Kovach, when Kovach attacked Sassone’s rulings in regards to the C-Murder case in her campaign advertisements during her bid to be re-elected in 2008.

Although Kovach won, an ethics committee ruled that her campaign crossed ethical lines for using the C-Murder case as propaganda to be elected.

In 2003, C-Murder was convicted of shooting and killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas during a dispute at a nightclub.

The decision was overturned by the Louisiana Supreme Court, when it was learned the prosecutors expunged the criminal backgrounds of various witnesses in an attempt to strengthen their credibility on the stand.

At the re-trial in 2009, C-Murder was again convicted of the shooting, but controversy broke out when juror Mary Jacob claimed that she voted to convict the rapper after being pressed by a fellow juror.

“After she just kept harassing me, I decided, the judge don’t want to listen to me, doesn’t want to listen to us? I told them, ‘You want him to be guilty? He’s guilty, now let’s get the hell out of here,” Jacob said.

C-Murder, who is serving a mandatory life sentence, is currently planning an appeal of the latest ruling on the grounds that the juror in question was forced to convict him and that Kovach’s advertisements also prevented him from receiving a fair trial.

Remy Ma Shooting Victim Makeda Barnes-Joseph Loses Appeal Against Universal….

AllHipHop Reports:

A New York court dismissed a lawsuit against Universal Records today (May 11th), stemming from a shooting involving rapper Remy Ma.

Makeda Barnes-Joseph filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the label, claiming Universal was in part responsible for Remy Man shooting her in twice in the abdomen, during a dispute over $3,000.

Barnes-Joseph claimed that Universal encouraged Remy Ma’s criminal activities by releasing her music during the criminal investigation of the crime.

Today, a New York appeals court ruled that Remy Ma had been dropped by Universal nine months prior to the shooting and dismissed the lawsuit.

Remy Ma is expected to be released from prison in 2013, although in a recent interview, she implied that she could be home much sooner.

A 1yr. Old Girl, 2 Adults Killed & 5 Injured In SC Drive-By Shooting…

WALTERBORO, S.C. — A young girl and two adults were killed and at least five people were hurt in a drive-by shooting in a small town, the county coroner said Tuesday.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Monday in Walterboro, about 40 miles west of Charleston. Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said the victims were from Walterboro and were related to each other, though he did not know the relationships.

Harvey named the victims as 20-month-old Shaniyah Burden, Charles Kittrell, 45, and Christopher Powell, 21. Kitrell died at the scene and the other two in separate hospitals.

The shooting happened outside a small, beige bungalow in a neighborhood of compact houses along a side street.

Ginni Keeling, 22, who identified herself as a cousin of the family, said they often played cards and watched television in the front yard of the house.

“I’ve been over here since I was 13 years old. I ain’t never seen anything like this,” she said.

Family members told The Post and Courier of Charleston the victims were playing cards in the front yard when a car pulled up and opened fire.

Keeling said she’d left the scene about 15 minutes before the shooting with her two young children and she got a call from another relative at the scene, telling her about the incident.

Keeling said she had no idea what the motive behind the shooting might be. She drove one of the people at the scene to a local hospital because the person was hyperventilating, Keeling said.

No arrests have been reported.

Officers were looking for a black car with one headlight, Walterboro Police Capt. Ken Dasen said. He referred other questions to the State Law Enforcement Division. A SLED spokeswoman said she couldn’t immediately provide details.

Gunman In Orlando Shooting Jason Rodriguez

Gunman Jason Rodriguez photos

Gunman, Jason Rodriguez, opened fire Friday in the offices of the engineering firm that fired him over two years ago. Jason Rodriguez killed one person and has injured five others in the Orlando shooting.

Jason Rodriguez, 40, surrendered three hours after the shooting when police saw him through the window of his mother’s home.

When a reporter outside the police station asked Rodriguez why he did it, he replied: “Because they left me to rot.”

Jason Rodriguez brought a handgun to the engineering firm in a downtown office tower where he formerly worked as an engineer.

“This is a tragedy, no doubt about it, especially on the heels of the tragedy in Fort Hood that is on our minds,” Demings said. “I’m just glad we don’t have any more fatalities or any more injuries than we currently have.”

Camille Previlon told The Associated Press her uncle, engineer Guy Lungenbel, was shot in the back and was able to talk but had not said much about the shooting.

“He is stable,” she said. “He’s just hurting real bad in the back.”

The people shot were in the offices of Reynolds Smith & Hill, on the eighth floor. The five survivors were in stable condition, Demings said.

Company spokesman Mike Bernos said Jason Rodriguez was an entry-level engineer who was fired in June 2007 after working there for a year.

“His performance wasn’t up to our standards, so we terminated him,” Bernos said. There had been no contact between the company and Rodriguez since then.

A U.S. Army major shot and killed 12 people and wounded 31 others at Fort Hood Thursday afternoon.

Military officials in Washington identified the shooter as Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a psychiatrist.

Lt. General Bob Cone, the commanding general at Ft. Hood, says the gunman was shot and is now in military custody at a Killeen-area hospital.

Reports that the suspect was killed were corrected as “confusion at the hospital.”

Lt. Gen. Cone said Hasan’s death was “not imminent.”

A female civilian officer who was also reportedly killed was confirmed to be alive and stable.  The officer was credited as the person who shot Major Hasan.

Three other soldiers who were taken into custody as part of the investigation were released Thursday evening.

The gunman used two handguns, according to Cone.  He said the motive is still unknown.

Cone says the shooting happened at a personnel processing center called the Soldier Readiness Center, which is comprised of several buildings.  Cone says the shooting took place only at the processing center.

The shooting started at 1:30 Thursday afternoon.

“It’s a terrible tragedy. It’s stunning,” Cone said.

The post was immediately put on lockdown, but that state of emergency ended just after 7 p.m. when the post was reopened.

The wounded were sent to hospitals across Central Texas, Cone said.  Scott & White Hospital, a major trauma center in Temple, said it had received nine shooting victims.
