Danny Rogers, better known as “Lil Dee God’s Gift”, prides himself on the positive message his music conveys.
The rapper shoots his videos around the New Orleans metro area, “guerella style” as he calls it. Rogers and his friends gather at a chosen spot, Chance Gomez presses record and the finished product ends up on YouTube. They never get a permit to film.
Rogers shot a music video at the Ames Express convenience store in Marrero once before and he had permission from the clerk, so he thought another shoot wouldn’t be a problem.
He was wrong.
Rogers and friends got together at the store Sunday night, armed with real, unloaded guns to act out a mock armed robbery.
Someone passing by the store on Ames Boulevard, saw the guns and thought it was real. They called 911.
“We was in there shooting, getting our shots and everything in the middle of the scene and police just ran in,” says Rogers. “A cop ran in with his gun drawn and after that, backup just followed.”
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies swarmed the parking lot, arresting Rogers, Chance Gomez, Yonael Santana, Timothy Kelly and Nidal Jamhour for Criminal Mischief. Raassan Holmes, Frank Cheffen and Terrell Hogan face a charge of Illegal Carrying of a Concealed Weapon along with Criminal Mischief.
“This is not smart,” says Sheriff Newell Normand. “Had they had the guns out and our officers come upon them, the likelihood is we would have multiple people dead.”
The eight men bonded out of jail early Monday. The camera and footage is still in the possession of Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s detectives and Rogers has no idea if he’ll get it back.
Rogers says he’ll be sure to get a permit before he shoots the next video.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
36-year old Jeremy Hoven is suing a Walgreens store in Michigan after he was fired one week after he says he was praised for shooting at two armed robbers who came into his store at 4:30AM this past Mother’s Day and took the floor manager hostage.
According to TMZ, Shaquille O’Neal may have some old dirt catching up to him from a 2008 kidnapping and robbery by men allegedly hired by the ex-NBA superstar.
Authorities list Ladell Rowles, member of the Main Street Mafia Crip Gang in L.A as one of Shaq’s friends that went on a mission to find and destroy a sex tape that captured O’Neal and other women while he was still married to Shaunie.
Rowles and six other men rolled up on a man named Robert Ross in his Rolls Royce Phantom, used firearms to forcefully kidnap him, steal his jewelry and $15,000 in cash, and ordered him to give them the tape.
How did Ross get the tape? Well the former friend of O’Neal used to let the “Big AARP” in his home to handle his side chick affairs and the security camera caught some of the action. Ross told the cops that the camera recycles and wipes away footage and no evidence really exists.
The threat to Shaq came from a business deal that Ross was apparently cut out of. Ross was supposed to get 50% of any artists he brought for Shaquille’s label but received nothing out of a deal for the act he introduced to them, Ray J.
It gets a little deeper as Ross spilled the beans that he began to have an affair with Shaunie after she separated from her husband and Shaq hired a private investigator to confirm the relationship.
Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t commented on the situation.
