Outkast, Ciara & Future Signs w/ L.A. Reid!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Atlanta duo Outkast will be signing a group deal with Reid, in addition to R&B singer Ciara.

The HR says:

Since taking over Sony Music’s Epic Records in July, label chairman and X Factor judge L.A. Reid has been busy erasing the company’s tarnished image and rebuilding its roster, which will soon include Outkast and Ciara, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Reid has a long history with both acts, who were originally signed to his LaFace Records (label home to a young Usher, Pink and TLC).

In 1994, LaFace, which had entered into a joint venture partnership with Sony’s Arista Records in 1989, released Outkast’s debut album, Southern-playalisticadillacmuzik.

Ten years later, with Reid nearing the end of his presidency at Arista, the duo’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below sold 11 million copies and won six Grammy awards.

Hip-Hop fans have been yearning for a new Outkast album, so this news comes as a pleasant surprise.

Atlanta rapper Future (“Tony Montana,” “Racks”) also inked a deal with Reid’s Epic Records.

Rapper Big Boi Arrested For Drugs In Miami

MIAMI (AP) — Grammy-winning OutKast rapper Big Boi has been arrested in Miami on charges of illegally possessing drugs, including ecstasy and Viagra pills.

The rapper, whose real name is Antwan Patton, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia on Sunday. According to the Miami-Dade County Corrections website, the 36-year-old Patton was also carrying MDMA, which is the main ingredient in Ecstasy.

The rapper was released on $16,000 bond.

Big Boi To Open Savannah Chapter of His Big Kidz Charity Organization

Outkast’s Big Boi will launch the Savannah, Georgia chapter of his charity organization Big Kidz Foundation in February. The organization’s mission is to support youth developmental projects and encourage cultural, musical, and literary expression. Big Boi states,

“It is my hope that the children in these undeserved communities officially become part of the national conversation that we have been left out of for years. The efforts within this program will not only stress education, but will stress exposure to culture.”

Helping to get the word out about the organization, Big Boi visited Savannah High School yesterday. Speaking to the youngsters, he said,

“I was born in Savannah and grew up here and I remember growing up and not knowing there were a lot of things for our youth and ever since then I’ve been speaking to them and I think that Big Kidz will get them prepared as well.”
