About Time: Rep. Anthony Weiner Announced His Resignation From Congress!

According To A Senior Democratic Aide:

Weiner informed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Steve Israel chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, of his decision Wednesday night.

The congressman held a conference on his decision Thursday afternoon telling the press,

“Today I am announcing my resignation from Congress so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative and most importantly that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage I have caused.”

Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was seen entering the couple’s home in Queens before the press conference, but was not at the Brooklyn event that took on a circus-like atmosphere as many booed and jeered while Weiner spoke for about three minutes.

The scandal had become a distraction for House Democrats, who had raised pressure on Weiner to resign in recent days after he admitted to exchanging lewd photos and messages with women he met online.

Weiner was being pressured by many to resign including President Barack Obama.

Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted Monday that he sent a lewd photo to a woman over Twitter after initially claiming he was hacked. Saying he is “deeply ashamed,” he also said he has had explicit conversations with six women over the last three years.

Rep. Anthony Weiner plans to make a statement to the press Monday afternoon following a string of new reports about racy photos allegedly sent from his online accounts.

Weiner plans to speak to the media at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City Monday afternoon, though New York Democratic sources say he will not resign.

Anthony Weiner who was a top candidate for next Mayor of New York is in hot water after he reportedly sent a photo of his groin to a 21-year old girl named Gennette Cordova from Whatcom Community College in Washington that he’s never even met. Gennette is listed as a fan of Weiner’s and once called him “her boyfriend” on the site but Weiner is sticking by his story and saying his Twitter was hacked but he doesn’t know if that’s him in the picture.
