NYPD Officer In The Sean Bell Shooting Files Lawsuit Against Sean Bell’s Estate For Injuries

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The NY Post Reports:

A cop involved in the fatal shooting of Sean Bell on his wedding day is now suing the dead man’s estate — claiming Bell drunkenly assaulted and badly injured him with a car right before the hail of police gunfire that brought the unarmed man down.

Police Officer Michael Carey‘s lawsuit says Bell was boozed-up when he got behind the wheel of the car after his bachelor party on Nov. 25, 2006, and also claims the doomed groom failed to wear glasses or contact lenses despite having poor eyesight.

Carey’s allegations are contained in a Brooklyn federal counter-claim filed last week in response to a wrongful-death lawsuit being pursued by Bell’s fiancée, Nicole Paultre Bell, against him and the other four cops involved.

“[Officer Carey] suffered serious leg injury when [Bell] crashed into the vehicle he was riding in before Officer Carey ever drew his gun and fired a shot,”
said Carey’s lawyer, Richard Signorelli.

Bell, 23, and his entourage were shot at 50 times by five officers, including Carey, after they left a strip joint, Club Kalua, in Jamaica, Queens.

Producer Of ‘Stop Snitching’ DVDs Gets Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison

The star and co-producer of the “Stop Snitching” videos — a man who came to symbolize Baltimore’s violent street scene and a culture that threatens witnesses who cooperate with police — was sentenced Friday to nearly 20 years in federal prison.

Removing Ronnie Thomas, better known as “Skinny Suge,” from city streets ends a years-long drama in which his popular underground DVDs flouted authority with obscene anti-police rants showing “corner boys” taunting police and waving guns — practically daring officers to confront them.

The first video surfaced in 2004 and was followed by a sequel in 2007, prompting Baltimore police to counter with a video of their own, “Keep Talking.” A bizarre showdown between the city’s law enforcement and drug dealers played out on television screens instead of on street corners.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III said the intent of the “Stop Snitching” videos was to “try to discourage people from making their neighborhoods safer and to intimidate people. … We’re talking about kids who are destroying each other for no good reason.”

In an interview after Friday’s sentencing, Bealefeld said he doesn’t “expect that [Thomas] is going to come out and issue some sort of statement saying, ‘Hey, I was wrong and what I did was dumb.’ But I hope that the community says, ‘Hell no, we won’t stand for it.’ ”

He added that the movie trailer should now be changed to incorporate this caveat: Embrace the video’s message “and you will find yourself in federal prison.”

Eight other people associated with the videos have been prosecuted in federal court, including a cameraman and other prominent stars, most of whom are now in prison for 10 or more years on drug and gun convictions.

Selling for $9.99 over the Internet, the videos attracted the attention of Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, who used them as a springboard to speak out against the issue of witness intimidation. The videos damaged the image of city native and Denver Nuggets basketball star Carmelo Anthony, who made a brief appearance on the first DVD.

Also affected were two Baltimore police officers whose names were featured on the original video. They were arrested and convicted of robbery, drug trafficking and firearms offenses and sentenced to 139 and 315 years in federal prison.

Though the videos were condemned by prosecutors, police, politicians and the public, the co-producer of “Stop Snitching 2,” Rodney Bethea, defended them in an interview with The Baltimore Sun in 2007. “People are surviving the only way they know how,” he said then, adding later, “What I’m doing is exposing the social conditions.”

However, police and prosecutors said the videos are nothing more than warnings to witnesses that they’ll be harmed or killed if they call the police.

“We don’t know who the snitches are, but when we find out, we gonna bust a cap,” a young boy holding a gun says on the second video.

21Yr. Old Woman Eats Every 15mins To Stay Alive…

Lizzie Velasquez weighs just 56lbs and has almost zero per cent body fat but she’ll be the first to tell you she’s not anorexic.

The 21-year-old from Austin, Texas, actually eats every 15 minutes just to stay healthy.

The Texas State University student has a condition that is so rare, there are only three known cases in the world. It prevents her from gaining weight even though she eats up to 60 small meals a day.

She consumes between 5,000 and 8,000 calories a day but her weight has never tipped over 60 pounds.

‘I weigh myself regularly and if I gain even one pound I get really excited,’ 5ft 2ins Lizzie said.

‘I eat small portions of crisps, sweets, chocolate, pizza, chicken, cake, doughnuts, ice cream, noodles and pop tarts all day long, so I get pretty upset when people accuse me of being anorexic.’
Lizzie was born four weeks prematurely weighing just 2lb 10oz. Doctors found there was minimal amniotic fluid protecting her in the womb.
‘They told us they had no idea how she could have survived,’ said Lizzie’s mother Rita, 45, a church secretary.

We had to buy dolls’ clothes from the toy store because baby clothes were too big.’

Doctors could not make a diagnosis so they prepared Lizzie’s parents for the worst.
‘They told us she would never be able to walk, talk or have a normal life,’ said Rita who has two other children with Lizzie’s father Lupe, 44. Lizzie’s siblings Chris, 12, and Marina, 15, are both of average height and weight.

Despite the grim prognosis Lizzie’s brain, bones and internal organs developed normally but she was always very small.

At the age of two she was still only 15lbs – the same as the average five-month-old baby.

‘I was normal but really, really tiny, said Lizzie, who underwent numerous tests at the St David’s Medical Centre in Austin with inconclusive results.
Doctors speculated Lizzie might have the genetic disorder De Barsy syndrome but soon ruled it out as it became clear she did not have learning difficulties.

Doctors then discovered she had gone blind in that eye.
‘They still don’t know why it happened but now I have one blue and one brown eye.’

When she was 2 (left picture) and today
In high school Lizzie made friends and gradually came to accept her appearance.
I started to think: ‘Well this is me, like it or lump it,” said Lizzie.

‘I was always the one at the top of the pyramid during cheerleading,’ she added.
Lizzie has a weak immune system and has been in hospital many times after catching numerous illnesses.

Lizzie’s case has fascinated doctors all over the world and she is part of a genetic study run by Professor Abhimanyu Garg, M.D. at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Professor Garg and his team now believe Lizzie may have a form of Neonatal Progeroid Syndrome (NPS) which causes accelerated ageing, fat loss from the face and body, and tissue degeneration. People with PRS often have triangular and prematurely aged faces with a pointy nose.

Lizzie doesn’t take medication but she relies on vitamin supplements and iron to stay healthy. It is thought she should be able to conceive naturally without passing the condition to her children.
She added: ‘I do all the things my friends do, shopping, movies and parties.

But I hate it when people stare, or make comments. When I meet new people I have to say: “Hi, I’m Lizzie and I have this rare syndrome, I am NOT anorexic.”

Currently there is no cure but her doctors predict if Lizzie keeps eating she has a bright future ahead of her.
She insisted: ‘I’m happy the way I am and this syndrome has made me the person I am’
Lizzie hopes to become a motivational speaker when she graduates.

‘I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives and show them that you can get through most hardships if you are strong, positive and have a sense of humour, she said.

Lizzie has also co-authored a book about her incredible experiences. It is due to be released in late September and will be available on Amazon.

Do You Agree? “For Every Southern Rapper You Say Can’t Rap, I Can Find The Equivalent In New York”

David Banner: People talk about the South not being about lyrics, well I don’t know when we were ever “not” rapping. That’s one of my gripes with people. Even with me recently, everybody has been acting like I’ve got this big epiphany or I was stupid or something. You’ve always had Bun B, Scarface, Andre 3000, I don’t know why people are coming up with this. You’ve always had Ceelo Green. For every New York rapper that’s really lyrical, I can find you a Southern rapper that matches them. For every Southern rapper you say can’t rap, I can find the equivalent in New York. It’s funny because people would always talk about the Ying Yang Twins but I was like, Flavor Flav is New York’s Ying Yang Twins. So with me saying that, I can find you a Talib Kweli in the South.

Nas is Killer Mike to me. You see what I’m trying to prove? Even with myself though, they forget about Crooked Lettaz. People think they can say I just started “rapping” but don’t know about my history. Let me tell you something about hip-hop, if there’s an 808 in your music, people already stop listening and then they seem to get ignorant.

Music in general is becoming more eclectic. Folks are blaming this and other stuff on the South and saying the South is doing that but it’s just that the spotlight is on the South now. So anything that happens in the South, anything that happens in music, it’s going to be more tunneled and focused toward the South.

It’s just a more eclectic movement in music, period. Everybody’s seeing that it’s time for a change, that’s the reason why I’m doing the 9th Wonder album, Death of a Pop Star. I’m listening to everybody’s music. People don’t want to admit it but listen to Gucci Mane’s music. Gucci is on something right now. Gucci is taking his music to a whole ‘nother level, listen to Young Jeezy. Jeezy’s music is shutting down folks right now. Folks just want to give people their due credit.

Right now in hip-hop, everybody is taking their music to the next level. With President Obama and everything happening, there’s just a sense of enlightenment in our community right now. People are talking about politics in the hood now! So let’s not just blame it all on Southern music, let’s blame it all on the overall consciousness of our people.

People have a sense that I’m angry, I’m making more money and doing more on outside projects like my recent Gatorade commercial during the NBA Finals. I just finished a commercial for Motorola that I produced the record and executive produced and I’m acting more. I did one with Al Pacino, another one with Forest Whitaker and Adrien Brody. So with me saying this, I’m not angry, I’m just passionate about poor people or the plight of poor people. And since I’m over 6’2 and not afraid, even my own people want to paint me as angry because I’m not a step and fetch n*gga. And because I’m not jumping up and down and slobbering all the time, I’m not angry, I’m just a grown man that’s serious about the plans of people.
